Here are some links to websites you might find useful. I’ve made a note or two about each one.

GOVERNMENTAL LINKS

Las Vegas Municipal Court:
This is the court where I serve in Department 1. You can find the hours of operation, location, information about court functions and even opportunities to volunteer. Just click here:
http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Government/departments.asp?ID=4177#4177

The City of Las Vegas:
Las Vegas Municipal Court is a part of our city government here in Las Vegas. The city has many functions, and you can find out about the Mayor and City Council, the various departments, recreation and sports and so much more by clicking on:
http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/

Nevada Eighth District Court:
A number of cases which first appear in Municipal Court or Justice Court are referred to the District Court as criminal cases. The District Court, including the Justice Court system, handles misdemeanor and traffic cases outside of municipal jurisdiction. It also is responsible for family law. You can visit with this link:
http://www.clarkcountycourts.us/

The Nevada State Supreme Court:
The Supreme Court hears appeals from District Court cases across Nevada. The court also sets rules and regulations for attorneys and judges in Nevada. They post a self-help section and access to the Law Library. It’s all right here:
http://www.nvsupremecourt.us/

State of Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline:
Judges are subject to review for their behavior by this committee. This site also includes the Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics. Both are well explained at:
http://judicial.state.nv.us/main.htm

State of Nevada:
The official website for the State of Nevada is www.nv.gov and it contains everything from state agencies to a calendar of events across our state.

Clark County Election Department:
As is the case for every municipal court judge, I hold a city position. However, the election for my position and others is conducted by the Clark County Election Department which is also responsible for voter registration, establishing polling places, and many other election functions. To find out whether or not you are registered to vote, to get a voter registration form, or to find out who your elected representatives are, use this link:
http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/election/english/Pages/home.aspx

Las Vegas City Clerk:
While the Clark County Election Department actually conducts the election, the Las Vegas City Clerk is charged with accepting the filings for office and recording the election results. They should be updating their website for 2009 any time now. You can check it out at:
http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Government/departments.asp#

Las Vegas is both a city and an area. Also, did you know that when we say Las Vegas, many people think of the greater Las Vegas Valley. The actual city of Las Vegas, served by the Las Vegas Municipal Court, the Mayor, and the Las Vegas City Council, is actually a part of the Las Vegas Valley. For that reason, many people with a Las Vegas address don’t actually live in the City of Las Vegas. Here are two ways for you to find out for sure.

COMMUNITY INTEREST AND HELP LINKS:

Nevada Legal Resources Directory (www.nvlawdirectory.org)
This is a Supreme Court resource information as well. It is really good as it provides a broad range of legal and social services available for every possible need. I have always had a hard-copy and used it in dealing with individuals seeking help that we could not provide.

Nevada 2-1-1 (www.nevada211.org)
I love the amount of information available on this site. It has references to legal and social services, and it also has all the drug and alcohol resource links (Westcare, Nobility House, for example). I use this heavily with relation to WIN court referrals.

Help of Southern Nevada (www.helpsonv.org)
This is also an extensive resource for legal and social services.
